Expertise

From financial APIs to financial intelligence.

Four disciplines that share one specialism: the infrastructure and intelligence of connected finance. We lead with standards and outcomes, and we name the technology once, below, so you know the work will be maintainable.

01

Financial intelligence

Machine learning applied to the data connected finance produces: categorisation, affordability, risk and financial health.

Open Banking data is only useful once it is understood. We build the models and pipelines that categorise transactions, identify income and recurring expenditure, measure affordability and surface risk signals, and we do it on real production feeds for regulated decisions rather than on demonstration datasets. The work sits where our Open Banking, data engineering and machine-learning experience meet, and it is where most of our effort has gone over the last five years.

What we do

  • Transaction categorisation and enrichment
  • Income, expenditure and financial-behaviour modelling
  • Affordability and creditworthiness analysis
  • Risk models and decision support
  • AI-assisted financial analysis and evaluation

Typical engagements

  • Categorisation and enrichment engines
  • Affordability and risk model development
  • Data platform design for decisioning

02

Connected finance

Open Banking, Open Finance and payments infrastructure, from the API surface to the consent model behind it.

We design and build the platforms that connect banks, third-party providers and the businesses that depend on them: account information and payment initiation, commercial variable recurring payments, consent and data integration, and the conformance and interoperability work that gets an implementation signed off. Our experience starts with the programme that defined the UK standard and continues through the vendors and data businesses that run on it.

What we do

  • Open Banking Read/Write API implementation and architecture
  • Payment initiation and commercial VRP integration
  • Consent, data integration and transaction processing
  • Conformance, certification and interoperability
  • Open Finance and Smart Data readiness

Typical engagements

  • API platform architecture
  • Conformance and certification support
  • Technical standards advisory

03

Trust and identity

The authentication, authorisation and security profiles that make financial data sharing safe.

Secure data sharing depends on getting identity right. We work across OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect and the Financial-grade API (FAPI) security profiles, dynamic client registration, consent frameworks and the secure API architecture around them. Leading the UK conformance product for the security and functional standards gave us an unusually direct view of how these specifications are implemented, and where implementations go wrong.

What we do

  • OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect and FAPI implementation
  • Dynamic client registration and directory integration
  • Consent frameworks and authorisation design
  • Secure API architecture and security-profile conformance
  • Identity and access management for financial services

Typical engagements

  • Security-profile implementation and review
  • Consent and authorisation architecture
  • Pre-certification readiness

04

Platform engineering

Cloud-native architecture and senior engineering leadership: the foundation the other three stand on.

Every capability above is delivered as production software. We architect and build cloud-native platforms on AWS, distributed systems, secure backends and high-volume data pipelines, and we provide the technical leadership to see them through: as architects engaged alongside a client’s own team, or as contracted technical leadership for businesses that need CTO-level engineering without a permanent hire.

What we do

  • Cloud-native architecture on AWS
  • Distributed systems and high-volume data processing
  • Secure backend platforms and API design
  • Complex integrations and platform engineering
  • Contracted technical leadership

Typical engagements

  • Platform architecture and build
  • Contracted technical leadership
  • Technical due diligence

How we build

How we build

Python at the core, for services, data science and machine learning. AWS for infrastructure. Modern data tooling, from pipelines to visualisation, chosen for the problem rather than the fashion. We build every system as though we will be the ones maintaining it in five years, because we often are.

Direction

From Open Banking to intelligent, connected finance.

Open Banking started as a competition remedy and became the template for consented data sharing worldwide: Open Finance, Smart Data, digital identity. The next step is intelligence. We apply machine learning and AI to that data to understand people and businesses properly, and we think that is the most useful thing a financial-technology engineer can do right now.

  • Open Finance and Smart Data

The Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 created the framework for smart data schemes beyond banking, and the FCA has set out open finance as a priority. The patterns are familiar to anyone who implemented Open Banking: directories, consent, security profiles, conformance. We have done that work once already.

  • Machine learning on Open Banking data

Consented transaction data describes a household or a business far more accurately than a bureau score, but only once a machine can read it. Categorisation, income and expenditure modelling and affordability analysis are where we have spent the last five years, and where we see the most value for lenders, advisers and the people they serve.

  • Commercial VRP and payments

Commercial variable recurring payments went live in 2026. Recurring, consented account-to-account payments change the economics of collections and subscriptions, and they need careful integration with consent and risk controls.

  • AI that understands financial lives

Language models and agents can now reason over a categorised financial history, explain it, and act on it with consent. We are building towards that carefully: analysis and evaluation first, decision support second, always with the identity, consent and audit controls that regulated use demands.

Have financial data you need to understand?

If you hold consented transaction data and need to turn it into categorisation, affordability, risk or financial-health intelligence, that is the work we most want to do. Tell us what your project is and we will always try to help.
